“I PASSED THE PSYCHOMETRICIAN BOARD EXAM!”. PSYCHOMETRICIAN? WHAT’S THAT?
Have you ever felt so happy and grateful up to the point that you hear your heart pounding? I did. Passing the licensure exam for Psychometricians was one of the greatest blessing I’ve ever achieved. Four years of studying the degree program Bachelor of Science in Psychology and an additional month of reviewing finally produced its fruit. Because of the Lord’s guidance I was sure of what career I should pursue, and that is to become a Psychologist. Passing the Psychometrician board exam was the first step to my goal. I aspire to be someone that helps and aids people that are experiencing Psychological conditions and I was exposed in teaching children who have special needs. I was excited to apply for certain jobs that will help me practice what I studied for and then I discovered that most of the people here in our country does not know what a Psychometrician does. I was shocked and a bit disappointed that what I worked hard for was neglected but it did not stop me from pursuing my goal. What is a Psychometrician you say? What is the difference between a Psychometrician and a Psychologist? Psychometricians construct tests and interpret results for the purpose of assessing a person’s intelligence, personality, skills or other psychological attributes. We ensure the accuracy and validity of exams and gather data that will be instrumental to improving the performance of an individual, diagnose an impairment or determine aptitude for particular tasks. We are trained to do statistical analyses to check the reliability and validity of tests and their results. While a psychologist is a professional specializing in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, emotional disturbance, and behavior problems. Psychometricians and psychologists work together to aid other people in taking care of their well being.
